Probiotics and Cancer
Cancer is usually caused by a mutation or abnormal activation genes that control cell growth and division. Most of the abnormal cells do not cause cancer because the cells usually exceed the normal abnormal. Also, the immune system recognize and destroy cells are abnormal.
Many processes can increase the exposure or the occurrence of abnormal cells. Precautions to minimize exposure of this lower risk of cancer. Among the many potential risk exposure of chemical exposure. Chemicals do cause cancer (carcinogens) may be delayed or the metabolic activity of microbes living in the gastrointestinal system.
Has been assumed that probiotic cultures may reduce exposure to chemical carcinogens:
(1) detoxification of carcinogens ingested
(2) change the environment of the gut Microbial population will reduce the metabolic activity of bacteria that can produce carcinogenic compounds
(3) produce metabolic products (butyrate) which improve the ability to die when delula must die (a process known as apoptosis or programmed cell death)
(4) produce compounds that inhibit the growth of tumor cells in
(5) stimulate the immune system to defend against the proliferation of cancer cells.
Research shows that consumption of probiotic supplements can reduce cancer risk. Researchers tested the effects of consumption or fermented foods have been found:
* A reduction in the incidence of chemical induced Tumors in mice.
* A reduction of fecal enzymes (glucuronidase, azoreductase, nitroreductase, and dehydrogenase 7) believe that the May play a role in colon cancer in humans and animals.
* Degradation of nitrosamines.
* A weak mutagenic activity of substances tested in the laboratory.
* Prevention of damage to DNA in certain colonic cells.
* Improve the function of the immune system.
Taken together, these results show that probiotic supplements can positively influence the gastrointestinal environment to reduce the risk of cancer. However, the reduction of cancer must be demonstrated in humans to confirm the importance of this observation.
